Birding Hike   Wednesday,  JAN  25, 2017
8:30 AM

SACRAMENTO AUDUBON SOCIETY —  Lynch Canyon Open Space Park
Explore Lynch Canyon's rolling hills with stands of native oak, buckeye and bay trees, riparian corridors, and a great pond. Admire wintering ducks, grebes and possible shorebirds. Other wintering and resident birds may include golden eagles, harriers, hawks, kites, woodpeckers, Hermit Thrush and quail. If time allows, the group may also go for a guided hike at the King-Swett Ranches. Brought to you by the Sacramento Audubon Society. WHAT TO BE PREPARED FOR: Hiking about two miles over rough, rocky, uneven ground. This is a working ranch where free-range cattle roam as they please. There is no drinking water. There is one outhouse, located in the parking lot. In order to protect wildlife, cattle, and rare plants—and for your pet's safety—dogs are not allowed. Maintain a safe distance from cattle and wildlife, and be aware that this is tick, mountain lion, poison oak, and potentially rattlesnake country. Bring a backpack with plenty of water, snacks and a bag lunch. Wear boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes that grip well, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and protection from the elements—sun (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), wind, fog, rain, and binoculars, if you have them. Heavy rain may cancel. Contact Ken at 707-580-6277 if the weather is uncertain. RSVP to Ken.
