Nature Walk at Lake Solano   Saturday,  JAN  28, 2017
10:00 AM

PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS —  Lake Solano County Park
Join Lake Solano Rangers and Docents for a free, guided nature walk, “Winter Birds at Lake Solano,” at Lake Solano Park from 10 AM to noon. Meet at the Lake Solano Nature Center to begin your walk along the Shoreline Trail with your expert guide, Bob Rockwell. California enjoys mild winters, and that makes it an ideal spot for many migratory birds to spend the cooler months. At Lake Solano, a wide array of habitats means that visitors can observe a diverse assortment of birds and other wildlife. On this tour, we'll observe year-round residents and migratory visitors while taking in the natural beauty of Lake Solano Park. Loaner binoculars will be available. This event is a great opportunity to explore a local park that has much to offer: boating, picnic areas, wildlife viewing, and multiple hiking trails. Enjoy a day of strolling along Putah Creek while learning about local ecology and appreciating the beauty of this region. These activities are appropriate for all ages, and families and groups are welcome. Please prepare for the weather and variable conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing in layers. The tour will be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain. A camera and binoculars are recommended. Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery by picnicking or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour will be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain. Regsitering at www.putahcreekcouncil.org is recommended but not required. The day’s activities are free, and parking is only $6 per vehicle, payable at the day use entrance to the Park, across the street from the Nature Center. For questions, call Karin Young at Putah Creek Council, 530.795.3006.

Yoga Hike   Saturday,  JAN  28, 2017
10:00 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Lynch Canyon Open Space Park
Guided by her love of the outdoors and passion for yoga, Barbara Fredricks of Benicia Yoga and Wellness is offering a yoga hike at Lynch Canyon that is free and open to everyone. Parking is $6 (cash or check), or an annual parking pass can be purchased; call 707-784-6765 for details. All proceeds help Solano County Parks keep this land open and safe. WHAT TO BE PREPARED FOR: The pace will be moderate and the yoga practice suitable to all. No experience necessary. Expect rough, rocky, uneven ground. This is a working ranch where free-range cattle roam as they please. There is no drinking water. There is one outhouse, located in the parking lot. In order to protect wildlife, cattle, and rare plants—and for your pet's safety—dogs are not allowed. Maintain a safe distance from cattle and wildlife, and be aware that this is tick, mountain lion, poison oak, and potentially rattlesnake country. Wear comfortable clothes, sneakers or boots, and bring a pack for your own water bottle. No mat or other yoga equipment necessary. Meet in the park parking lot. Rain cancels. Call Sue at 707-590-0307 if the weather is uncertain. No registration is necessary, just show up!
