8:00 AM RIO VISTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Rio Vista The oldest Bass Derby on the West Coast will once again be highlighted at the Rio Vista Bass Festival, Oct 9-11. This year, anglers are able to choose between two fishing contests on the same ticket. Target lengths will be drawn at the start of the Derby early Friday morning for both Striped Bass and Sturgeon. This is a family event and we welcome young anglers, up to but not including 16 years of age. Kids will be fishing for catfish and striped bass. Many other activities planned for the weekend! 9:00 AM GVRD McIntyre Ranch Ages 4-14 -- The McIntyre Ranch is home to several different habitats, farm animals and an educational garden. Studies have found that children who spend time exploring nature are more focused and interested in school. Bring a snack, water and your curiosity! 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST Lynch Canyon Open Space Park Help us take care of Lynch Canyon's 1,000 plus acres. Projects include improving trails, fixing fences, weeding, and the like. Ages 12 and up are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. WHAT TO BRING: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, heavy work gloves, eye protection (e.g., sunglasses), boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rough, steep, and slippery terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from sun, wind, fog and rain. 9:30 AM BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION Western Railway Museum Gather the family and begin at the Western Railway Museum. The first electric express train leaves at 10:00 AM with departures every half-hour until 4pm. The ride on a historic life-sized electric train takes visitors back in time on a scenic five-mile trip to Gum Grove Station, a wooded glen far from the trappings of modern life. Local Rotarians from the Fairfield-Suisun, Cordelia, and Dixon Rotary Clubs are rallying together to make the event a success, providing a hay bale fort, food, tractor rides, music, games and of course, pumpkins for sale, just in time for Halloween. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors (65 and up), and $9 for children (ages 2 –14). Prices include admission to the Museum and to the Pumpkin Patch, unlimited train rides, use of the Museum's spacious and shaded picnic grounds, and free parking. Please note that there are no advanced reservations. All proceeds benefit the Western Railway Museum (a nonprofit educational institution) and the local Rotary Clubs who provide thousands of dollars to local community and youth activities each year.
