VISIONS OF THE WILD 2015 / VALLEJO COMMUNITY ARTS FOUNDATION — 
The festival will embrace all aspects of water: human needs, irrigation, wildlife habitat, recreation, Native American values, maritime culture and history, wetlands and creek restoration, and scenic beauty. The historic Empress Theatre will again be the primary venue along with the large gallery space at the Temple Art Lofts. Vallejo is an ideal place to celebrate water. Located on San Francisco Bay, the city sits at the confluence of two rivers and on the edge of hundreds of acres of restored wetlands. The 4-day festival will include: Films, Art Exhibitions, Guest Speakers, Field trips and outdoor recreation activities, a hands-on watershed restoration project, and water conservation demonstrations and information. Celebrate Benicia's Arbor Day and help us plant native trees at Benicia State Recreation Area! We'll be planting seedlings of coast live oak and california buckeyes. No experience necessary - tools and instruction provided! Bring gloves if you have them. Children under 14 will need an accompanying adult and all participants must sign our release waiver. Habitat Restoration After a Fire   Saturday,  OCT  17, 2015

VALLEJO WATERSHED ALLIANCE —  Hanns Park
Several months ago, fire scorched a hillside in Hanns Park. Please join the Vallejo Watershed Alliance, in partnership with Visions of the Wild H20 and the Solano Resource Conservation District, to replant the burned area with native grasses and trees. We’ll meet in Upper Hanns Park. Park in the Wardlaw Dog Park lot, cross the bridge over the creek behind the dog park. Turn right, heading west down the path. You will see signs directing you to the restoration site. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll bring water, refreshments, and tools. Rockville Hills Regional Park Trail Crew   Saturday,  OCT  17, 2015

CITY OF FAIRFIELD —  Rockville Hills Regional Park
The Rockville Trail Crew volunteer work days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 9-12noon, rain or shine! Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Volunteers should bring water, gloves and a tool if available. Volunteers should wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes. A snack and beverage provided for volunteers. Meet at the parking area. We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.

Pumpkin Patch Festival    Saturday,  OCT  17, 2015

BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION —  Western Railway Museum
Gather the family and begin at the Western Railway Museum. The first electric express train leaves at 10:00 AM with departures every half-hour until 4pm. The ride on a historic life-sized electric train takes visitors back in time on a scenic five-mile trip to Gum Grove Station, a wooded glen far from the trappings of modern life. Local Rotarians from the Fairfield-Suisun, Cordelia, and Dixon Rotary Clubs are rallying together to make the event a success, providing a hay bale fort, food, tractor rides, music, games and of course, pumpkins for sale, just in time for Halloween. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors (65 and up), and $9 for children (ages 2 –14). Prices include admission to the Museum and to the Pumpkin Patch, unlimited train rides, use of the Museum's spacious and shaded picnic grounds, and free parking. Please note that there are no advanced reservations. All proceeds benefit the Western Railway Museum (a nonprofit educational institution) and the local Rotary Clubs who provide thousands of dollars to local community and youth activities each year.

Bring the family for activities and learn how the garden grows from seeds to fruits. Horse Day at McIntyre Ranch   Saturday,  OCT  17, 2015

GVRD —  McIntyre Ranch
For ages 8-17 -- Learn about the friendly horses and goats, and participate in their daily care. Wear sturdy work clothes and tough shoes because this is a "hand-on" experience. You will put a halter on a horse, learn to lead horses safely, brush them, clean their feet and clean their stalls. Everyone will have a chance to sit on a horse (helmet are required and provided, keep hairstyle simple for easy fit). Eat a good breakfast, bring water bottle and wear layers. For more information contact the Coordinator at 648-4552. Cost: $25/class resident, $30/class non-resident. Online registration is also available online.

Rush Ranch 'Get the Rush'   Saturday,  OCT  17, 2015

SOLANO LAND TRUST AND RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Get the Rush is a series of fun and free activities for the whole family, offered on the third Saturday of every month at Rush Ranch. All ages and mobility levels are welcome! This event is 100% volunteer-run and activities vary month-to-month. For October, we have Pumpkin Decorating and an all-new Science Discovery Lab! Rain may cancel some activities. To reserve a spot with the pumpkin decorating, RSVP to Linda at 707-759-4676. If weather is uncertain, call Natalie at 707-432-0150 ext. 200.

Other activities may include a guided walk alongside the tidal marsh and through upland grasses (timing varies), a traditional blacksmith shop in action, an interpretive display of Native American tools and decorations, and horse-drawn wagon rides that are wheelchair accessible. Be prepared for variable weather by bringing layered clothes, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Optional: binoculars, camera.

Napa River Cruise   Saturday,  OCT  17, 2015

MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST —  Vallejo Marina
A few slots may be available for a 1:00pm-3:30pm boat trip aboard River Dolphin with Dolphin Charters. I will be the river guide with Captain Ronn Patterson. We’ll head north from the Vallejo Marina to Edgerly Island for this trip. Your guides will share history of Mare Island and highlight the Napa River wetlands and wildlife as shorebirds and waterfowl begin to flock into the San Pablo Bay-Delta and Napa River region.
