SAN FRANCISCO BAY NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE & SOLANO LAND TRUST Rush Ranch NOAA’s San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve & Solano Land Trust are accepting applications for upper elementary and middle school teachers for the first ever Teachers on the Estuary (TOTE) professional development workshop to be offered in Suisun Marsh. Teachers on the Estuary – Suisun Marsh will include two days of outdoor hands-on science learning on the edge of the estuary. We will explore the lands and waters of Rush Ranch, a hidden gem protected by the Solano Land Trust and part of NOAA’s National Estuarine Research Reserve System. Participating teachers will leave the workshop inspired and prepared to bring new science and data into their classrooms, and to bring their students outdoors. Connections to Next Generation Science Standards will be made throughout the workshop. Registration is limited to 20 teachers. For more information or to register, visit the workshop page online. 9:30 AM BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION Western Railway Museum Gather the family and begin at the Western Railway Museum. The first electric express train leaves at 10:00 AM with departures every half-hour until 4pm. The ride on a historic life-sized electric train takes visitors back in time on a scenic five-mile trip to Gum Grove Station, a wooded glen far from the trappings of modern life. Local Rotarians from the Fairfield-Suisun, Cordelia, and Dixon Rotary Clubs are rallying together to make the event a success, providing a hay bale fort, food, tractor rides, music, games and of course, pumpkins for sale, just in time for Halloween. Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (65 and up), and $10 for children (ages 2 –14). Prices include admission to the Museum and to the Pumpkin Patch, unlimited train rides, use of the Museum's spacious and shaded picnic grounds, and free parking. Tickets are available at the door or you may purchase them in advance online. There is a small processing fee for advanced tickets. All proceeds benefit the Western Railway Museum (a nonprofit educational institution) and the local Rotary Clubs who provide thousands of dollars to local community and youth activities each year. 5:00 PM MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve NightMARE Island returns to Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve! Get ready to get scared at our Annual Halloween Haunt Fundraiser on the grounds of the historic Mare Island Ammo Depot! Come haunt with us Thursdays – Sundays, October 20-23 & 27-31 from 5-9pm each evening. This year’s host, back from the near-dead, is "The man with one foot in the world of the living and the other foot six feet under": THE UNDERTAKER! He has so much planned for your visit! Attendees are encouraged to bring their own flashlights and come in costume. This is an all-ages event, though some of the attractions may be more suited to the 13+ crowd. (They will be marked.) Join The Undertaker on a tour of the Navy's oldest cemetery in the west, with graves dating back to the 1850's (nightly at 6:30pm), hike to the highest point on Mare Island, on the 1-mile long paved trail to visit the Spirit Ship and take in the 7-county twinkling view. (Rides in the Undertaker’s Hearse available to those with physical or costuming disabilities!) We will have outdoor displays, and many haunted sets in a 5,000 sq ft abandoned building.
