9:00 AM NAPA - SOLANO AUDUBON SOCIETY Benicia State Recretional Area Preview several areas in the 15 mile diameter Benicia Christmas Bird Count (BCBC) circle. You will learn how to estimate the number of species seen, as well as tally as many species as possible. Since this field trip is during the count period, species can be counted as a Count Week species if they are not seen on the December 14th Christmas Bird Count. We will bird until approximately 2 p.m. Please bring something to eat, if you would like lunch or a snack during the trip. For more information, contact Robin by email. 9:00 AM GVRD McIntyre Ranch Ages 4-14 -- The McIntyre Ranch is home to several different habitats, farm animals and an educational garden. Studies have found that children who spend time exploring nature are more focused and interested in school. Bring a snack, water and your curiosity! 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST Lynch Canyon Open Space Park Help us take care of Lynch Canyon's 1,000 plus acres. Projects include improving trails, fixing fences, weeding, and the like. Ages 12 and up are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. WHAT TO BRING: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, heavy work gloves, eye protection (e.g., sunglasses), boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rough, steep, and slippery terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from sun, wind, fog and rain. Meet Jordan promptly in the parking lot. RSVP by Friday, Dec 11 to Jordan by email or call at 315-262-4090 so he can bring enough tools. 9:30 AM PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL Lake Solano County Park Join Putah Creek Council in celebrating Winter Solstice through a day of planting native grass plugs! We'll be planting native grasses along the Lake Solano shoreline to help improve wildlife habitat and soil health. We provide all the tools and supplies, including gloves. We'll be meeting at 9:30 am and work until noon. Please dress appropriately for the weather in clothes that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. Don't forget your water bottle! If you are under 18, you MUST bring this completed liability form with a parent's signature. This event will happen rain or shine! PCC will bring ponchos and mud boots if necessary. Register online. Come visit with Santa at the Western Railway Museum Saturday, December 12 and Saturday, December 19 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Bring your camera as there will be photo opportunities as Santa greets you from the rear platform of our vintage observation car. Enjoy hot chocolate and cider and then hop on one of our historic rail cars decorated for the holidays for a ride through the countryside. Admission is good all day including all scheduled rides.
