Volunteer Opportunity: Upper Spring Branch Creek Planting   Saturday,  DEC  19, 2015
8:30 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Rush Ranch
Help Solano Land Trust staff scientists plant trees, shrubs and willow cuttings as part of the restoration of Rush Ranch's Upper Spring Branch Creek. Arrive on time and be prepared to carpool a short distance to the project site. This is an outdoor experience involving physical exertion. Be prepared to be moving outdoors for approximately four hours. Expect to walk over grasslands and low hills, with prickly thistles in places. Expect a bit of moderately strenuous activity: planting, moving plants, digging small holes, placing straw mulch, and installing protective cages. No experience is necessary. Tools are provided. Ages 12 and up who are comfortable with this kind of physical exertion are welcome—those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Maintain a safe distance from cattle and wildlife, and be aware that this is tick and wild pig country. Bring a backpack with plenty of water. We'll provide a light snack. You're welcome to bring additional snacks. Wear boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with good tread, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes you don't mind getting dirty, protection from the elements (sun, wind, fog, rain), sturdy work gloves if you have a pair (we will have gloves available), and eye protection (e.g., sunglasses). Optional: bug repellent, and binoculars to enjoy the birds! Meet in the Rush Ranch Nature Center courtyard. Rain may cancel. (Call Jared at 415-860-5993 if the weather is uncertain.) RSVP by Fri. Dec. 18 to Jared by email or 707-432-0152 (if you reach voicemail, leave a message with your name and phone number). If you RSVP but then can't come, please call Jared so he doesn't wait for you.
