Alamo Creek Restoration Volunteer Planting

9:00 AM SOLANO RESOURCE CONSERVATION DISTRICT — Alamo Creek Bike Trail We’re planting 500 native trees/shrubs and 8,000 native grass/wildflower plugs along the Alamo Creek Bike Trail in Vacaville. This is our second year of planting along the Alamo Creek corridor, and we’ve greatly improved local wildlife habitat. Come help us make it even better! RSVP to Katherine Holmes by email or at 707-678-1655 x118. All ages welcome; kids need to work closely with parents. No expertise is needed to help– anyone with an interest in conservation or restoration is welcome at these events, including families, clubs and service groups. Dress in layers, and bring sun protection and a water bottle. Solano RCD will provide snacks and all necessary tools. Site location and other information will be sent once you RSVP. 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST — King-Swett Ranches Come explore the hills between Fairfield, Benicia, and Vallejo! You'll be led by Jim Walsh and/or James Chang, both expert Solano Land Trust guides who know this area—known as the King-Swett Ranches—inside out. They'll share insights about the birds and other wildlife that call this area home, and give you a great workout! Take advantage of this special opportunity if you can because the King-Swett Ranches are otherwise closed. Bring: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rugged, steep, and slippery off-trail terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from the elements (sun, wind, fog, rain). Recommended: binoculars, camera, bug repellent, hiking sticks, gaiters. Participants of all ages are welcome, but they must be prepared: a strenuous pace hiking 4-6 miles off-trail, up and down rugged, steep, and slippery hills that are full of sticky seeds, thorny plants, and thistle. The King-Swett Ranches are working ranches—cattle are free range so they roam as they please. Very heavy rain cancels—call Jim at 916-870-4824 if the weather is uncertain. Hike at Rockville Trails Preserve

9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST — Rockville Trails Preserve Solano Land Trust volunteer Jim Hanser will lead hikers through California oaks to views of the surrounding valleys and sounds of birds and squirrels in a preserve only open to the public when a Solano Land Trust volunteer is leading a tour. Hikers should expect a moderate pace with occasional stops, hiking four to six miles up and down rugged, steep and slippery hills through the oak woodlands and grasslands. RSVP appreciated online. 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST — Rush Ranch Help care for Rush Ranch through maintenance, construction, litter removal, and other improvement projects. Ages 12 and up are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Tools are provided. Bring a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, heavy work gloves, eye protection (e.g., sunglasses). Wear boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rough, steep, and slippery terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from sun, wind, and fog. Habitat Planting at Lake Solano

9:30 AM PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL — Lake Solano County Park Come help Putah Creek Council and Solano Park staff plant over 150 native forbs along Lake Solano ~ many of the plants were grown by volunteers at the CAL FIRE Native Plant Nursery in south Davis (photo). Forbs are herbaceous flowering plants that play a very important role in attracting and sustaining pollinator populations. These gorgeous plants will provide food for butterflies, birds, and bees for years to come. We provide all the tools and supplies, including gloves. We'll be meeting at 9:30 am and work until noon. Please dress appropriately for the weather in clothes that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. Don't forget your water bottle! If you are under 18, you MUST bring this completed liability form with a parent's signature. This event will happen rain or shine! PCC will bring ponchos and mud boots if necessary. Register online. 11:00 AM PEÑA ADOBE HISTORICAL SOCIETY & RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL — Peña Adobe Park Visitors are invited to tour the national- and state-recognized historic Peña Adobe built in 1842 and the Mowers-Goheen Museum. Meet our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers at the Adobe--one of the few pre-gold rush era structures remaining in the county--from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Docents will be on hand to answer questions and provide insight into Vacaville’s past. A camera, binoculars and snacks are recommended as wildlife is often spotted in the park, or bring a picnic, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and take a hike. Docent-led nature walks will begin at 11:15, 12:15 and 1:15. This is a great family friendly opportunity to have fun.
