Sunrise Bird Walk   Sunday,  MAR  26, 2017
7:00 AM

NAPA SOLANO AUDUBON SOCIETY —  Il Fiorello Olive Oil Grove
Join us for a sunrise bird walk with light refreshments at Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company’s olive grove. Il Fiorello is located in Suisun Valley west of Fairfield. There is a $8 charge for the walk which includes Il Fiorello’s seasonal scones, coffee service, and infused water served in the shady portico after the walk. We will walk the perimeter of the property, through the groves, and along the irrigation canal for approximately two hours. Over fifty species of birds have been seen on the property, including golden eagles and many other species of raptors, water birds, passerines, and owls. Space is limited to 20 participants and reservations are required. Email Jane Hicks or call at 707-553-8901 by Saturday, March 11, to reserve your space. Bring: Sturdy walking shoes, sun protection, water, binoculars, the $8 fee for the event. Il Fiorello’s shop will be open after the walk, so bring cash or credit card if you would like to purchase their milled-onsite local olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and other items. Please note: This is a working farm and commercial food facility. The terrain is uneven and may have animal holes. Due to commercial food licensing requirements, no outside food may be brought into the property due to food safety concerns.

Wildflowers & Water Critters Walk   Sunday,  MAR  26, 2017
10:00 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Jepson Prairie
Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of a vernal pool ecosystem and native grassland prairie. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. Enjoy an easy guided walk which may include portions of the Preserve that are only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. Learn about vernal pools and see the aquatic invertebrate and flowering plants that depend on them. Expect a slow pace and meandering route with lots of opportunities to bend down and look at tiny wildflowers. All ages are welcome. It is often windy. The preserve is a working ranch with free-range sheep. There is no drinking water. In order to protect endangered species and sensitive habitat, dogs are not allowed. Bring abackpack with plenty of water and snacks and/or a picnic lunch. Wear boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes, preferably ones that are waterproof, layered clothes, and protection from the elements—sun (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), wind, fog, rain. You may also want to bring a hand lens, binoculars and a camera.

Park and meet near the outhouse. Rain may cancel. Call Kate at 530-758-5093 if the weather is uncertain. If your group is 6 or more, RSVP to Kate Mawdsley at wfm-kfm@pacbell.net or 530-758-5093. Free but a donation is requested.
