VALLEJO WATERSHED ALLIANCE —  Dan Foley Park
Families are coming to Lake Chabot soon for the Inner-City Fishing Program, and we need to do a little shoreline improvement so they can reach the water. We'll be working from 9A to noon. Wear sturdy clothes and shoes (waders if you have them), hat, sunscreen, and gloves. Bring a refillable water bottle if you have one. We’ll provide water and refreshments, as well as any tools that are needed. Please RSVP by email or by calling (707) 652-7812.

Nature Hike at Lynch Canyon   Saturday,  MAR  28, 2020

SOLANO LAND TRUST & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS —  Lynch Canyon Open Space Park
This hike occurs every 4th Saturday of the month. The hike will take visitors westward along Middle Valley Trail leading to Prairie Ridge. Expect about a 5-mile hike at a moderate but even pace over uneven ground. Muddy spots will have cattle prints. There are steep climbs over several hills with the longest at Prairie Ridge. It’s worth it to see the view of the northern San Francisco Bay and Vallejo. Hike leaves promptly at 9:15 from the parking lot; expect to be back by noon. Docent guides will be discussing plant communities, landforms, and birds at Lynch Canyon, pointing out highlights as we go. Bring boots, appropriate clothing, water and a snack. Call 707.432.0150 for more information. COST: The hike is free, but parking is $6.00 at Lynch Canyon. Registration recommended online.

We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Jepson Prairie

Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of a vernal pool ecosystem and native grassland prairie. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. Visitors can enjoy an easy guided walk which may include portions of the Preserve that are only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. Participants can learn about vernal pools and see the aquatic invertebrate and flowering plants that depend on them. Volunteer docents offer these two-hour tours every Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m., March 10 through May 13 (Mother’s Day). For groups of 6 or more, RSVP to Kate Mawdsley at email or 530-758-5093. A minimum $5 donation is encouraged to attend this tour.

Scenic Limited Wildflower Train   Saturday,  MAR  28, 2020

BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION —  Western Railway Museum
Come ride the annual Scenic Limited on a leisurely 11-mile round trip through the heart of Northern California. Enjoy the rolling Montezuma Hills and views of Mt. Diablo as you travel what was once the Sacramento Northern mainline on our historic train. The Scenic Limited runs March 28 through April 29. Train departs Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 11:00am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm. General admission is $10 adults, $9 Seniors ( 65+) and $7 kids 2-14. Members are free. First Class fare includes cookies and lemonade in the beautiful parlor car - $17 Adults, $16 Seniors, $14 Kids 2-14 and Members $7. Admission is good for the entire day, so you can explore historic railway exhibits, ride a vintage streetcar, make use of our large shaded picnic grounds, and visit our Museum Store, library archives, and the Depot Cafe. Scenic Limited tickets are now available online. All proceeds from ticket sales help support the Western Railway Museum and its mission to preserve the regional heritage of electric railways for the benefit of current and future generations.
