Wildflowers & Water Critters Walk   Sunday,  APR  14, 2019
10:00 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Jepson Prairie
Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of a vernal pool ecosystem and native grassland prairie. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. Visitors can enjoy an easy guided walk which may include portions of the Preserve that are only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. Participants can learn about vernal pools and see the aquatic invertebrate and flowering plants that depend on them. Volunteer docents offer these two-hour tours every Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m., March 10 through May 13 (Mother’s Day). For groups of 6 or more, RSVP to Kate Mawdsley at email or 530-758-5093. A minimum $5 donation is encouraged to attend this tour.
Location: Dixon
DIRECTIONS: Cook Lane off Highway 113 South 12 miles south of Dixon

Nature Walk: Spring Birds of Lake Solano Park   Sunday,  APR  14, 2019
11:00 AM

PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS —  Lake Solano County Park
Meet at the Lake Solano Nature Center to begin your stroll along the trails of Lake Solano Park. John Mott-Smith and Cathi Christo will be your guides for this morning birdwatching outing. This is a good opportunity to learn to identify local birds, so you don't have to be a birder to join them! Spring is here and the birds are singing. Join docents to see year-round residents such as egrets, Black Phoebes, and Red-tailed Hawks as well as spring visitors such as Yellow Warblers, Townsend's Warblers, and Cliff Swallows. These activities are appropriate for all ages, and families and groups are welcome. A limited number of loaner binoculars will be available. Please prepare for the weather and variable conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing in layers. The tour will be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain. A camera and binoculars are recommended. Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery by picnicking or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance registration is recommended but not required. The day's activities are free, and parking is $6 per vehicle payable at the east entrance to the Park, on the day use side (cash or check, exact change only). For questions, call Karin Young at Putah Creek Council, 530-795-3006.
