Earth Day at the Forrest Deaner Garden

8:30 AM BENICIA STATE PARKS ASSOCIATION — Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden Check in at 8:30. The project will begin at 9:00 and last until 12:30P. We will be planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials in Coastal Sage Scrub and Chaparral areas, mulching new plants, removing non-native plants in garden area and along pathways, and repairing the split rail fence bordering the garden. Rockville Hills Regional Park Trail Crew

9:00 AM CITY OF FAIRFIELD — Rockville Hills Regional Park The Rockville Trail Crew volunteer work days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 9-12noon, rain or shine! Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Volunteers should bring water, gloves and a tool if available. Volunteers should wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes. A snack and beverage provided for volunteers. Meet at the parking area. Horse Day at McIntyre Ranch

10:00 AM GVRD — McIntyre Ranch For ages 8-17 -- Learn about the friendly horses and goats, and participate in their daily care. Wear sturdy work clothes and tough shoes because this is a "hand-on" experience. You will put a halter on a horse, learn to lead horses safely, brush them, clean their feet and clean their stalls. Everyone will have a chance to sit on a horse (helmet are required and provided, keep hairstyle simple for easy fit). Eat a good breakfast, bring water bottle and wear layers. For more information contact the Coordinator at 648-4552. Cost: $25/class resident, $30/class non-resident. Online registration is also available online. 10:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST & RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL — Rush Ranch Get the Rush is a series of fun and free activities for the whole family, offered on the third Saturday of every month at Rush Ranch. All ages and mobility levels are welcome! This event is 100% volunteer-run and activities vary month-to-month. For April: • 10am-Noon: Science Discovery Labs: Learning stations will be set-up with engaging science and engineering activities for families. Get your science on! • 10am-1pm: Blacksmithing: Travel back in time by entering a traditional blacksmith shop. Try blacksmithing and make an iron nail or other keepsake! • Noon-1pm: Guided Walk alongside the Tidal Marsh: Rush Ranch is locally loved and nationally famous! Learn why scientists across the country get so excited about the tidal marsh at Rush Ranch, and why the natural mixing of saltwater and freshwater in the marsh is so good for people and the plants and animals that call Rush Ranch home. Up to one mile. • 11am-1pm: Weather and soil conditions permitting, ride around the ranch on a horse-drawn wagon! Wheelchair users are encouraged to board the wagon and experience the ride; the wagons are specially-designed with a wheelchair lift. 10:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST — Jepson Prairie Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of vernal pools and native grasslands. Enjoy an easy walk in a portion of the Preserve only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. The Preserve explodes into color during its spring wildflower display. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. WHAT TO BRING: Protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Jepson Prairie is often windy! Cash donation suggested but not required: $5/adult. Scenic Limited Wildflower Train

11:00 AM BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION — Western Railway Museum All aboard for the Scenic Limited, running on Wednesdays, Saturday, and Sundays in April at 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm! The Scenic Limited is an hour-long ride for all ages that highlights the natural wildflowers that dot the hillsides. Passengers admire panoramic views populated with native wildflowers such as poppies, goldfields, and lupine. A limited number of first-class seats can be reserved in the Parlor-Observation car, which include cookies and lemonade. Special rates available for current Museum members. General Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 years and older, and $7 for children 2-14. All coach tickets are all first-come, first-served. All first-class tickets are $7 extra, and include cookies and lemonade served by uniformed staff. Advanced reservations for first-class accepted online. Admission is good for the entire day so you can explore historic railway exhibits, ride vintage streetcar, make use of our large shaded picnic grounds, and visit our Museum Store, library archives, and the Depot Cafe.
