Plant and tend the Botanic Garden. All ages and skills welcome. We will have a range of activities for you to choose from. Come dressed to get dirty, wear a hat, sunscreen, and gloves. Exercise Hike at Rockville Trails Preserve   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Rockville Trails Preserve
Solano Land Trust volunteer Jim Hanser will lead hikers through beautiful California oaks. Get some exercise on the hills and appreciate great views of the surrounding valleys. Hikers should expect a moderate pace with occasional stops, hiking 5-7 miles up and down rugged, steep and slippery hills through the oak woodlands and grasslands. RSVP appreciated online. Guided Outing to Green Valley Falls   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL —  Green Valley Falls
One of the most picturesque places in Solano County, this waterfall vies for the title of most beautiful in the Bay Area. The falls flow all year long and it is cool and inviting even on a hot day. The hike is fairly short, but there are some steep and difficult spots. The hike should last about 3 hours. The City of Vallejo limits each hike to 30 people. We'll take reservations on a first-come first-served basis. You must bring a photo ID, be older than 12 years old, and be accompanied by a parent or guardian if you are under 18. Save your spot now by registering online now.

Nature Journaling at Rockville Trails Preserve   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Rockville Trails Preserve
Expect an easy pace hiking 3-5 miles up and down rocky, steep, and slippery hills that are full of sticky seeds and thorny plants. Some travel may be off-trail. The preserve is a working ranch where free-range cattle roam as they please. Visitors must be accompanied by a docent at all times. Since the preserve is otherwise closed, the entry and exit gate will be locked except for the start and end times of the hike. There is no drinking water nor bathrooms. In order to protect wildlife, cattle, and rare plants--and for your pet's safety--dogs are not allowed. Maintain a safe distance from cattle and wildlife, and be aware that this is tick, rattlesnake, mountain lion, and wild pig country. Rain cancels. Pre-registration required online. Rockville Hills Regional Park Trail Crew   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

CITY OF FAIRFIELD —  Rockville Hills Regional Park
The Rockville Trail Crew volunteer work days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 9-12noon, rain or shine! Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Volunteers should bring water, gloves and a tool if available. Volunteers should wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes. A snack and beverage provided for volunteers. Meet at the parking area. BENICIA TREE FOUNDATION —  Benicia Housing Authority
Join BTF volunteers and help plant young trees at the Benicia Housing Authority on Riverhill Drive. The trees we're planting will add shade, clean the air and spruce up this neighborhood! No experience necessary, tools and instruction provided. Bring gloves if you have them. Children under 14 must have accompanying adult and all participants must sign our release waiver. Horse Day at McIntyre Ranch   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

GVRD —  McIntyre Ranch
For ages 8-17 -- Learn about the friendly horses and goats, and participate in their daily care. Wear sturdy work clothes and tough shoes because this is a "hand-on" experience. You will put a halter on a horse, learn to lead horses safely, brush them, clean their feet and clean their stalls. Everyone will have a chance to sit on a horse (helmet are required and provided, keep hairstyle simple for easy fit). Eat a good breakfast, bring water bottle and wear layers. DIRECTIONS: McIntyre Ranch, located at the very end of St. John’s Mine Road, across from the Solano Community College Vallejo Center at 545 Columbus Parkway. Take St. John’s Mine Road and cross over the cattle crossing. Continue up the road and stay to the right to follow the road down to the barn. You are authorized to drive through this road for GVRD programs only.

 
Rush Ranch 'Get the Rush'   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

SOLANO LAND TRUST AND RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Get the Rush is a series of fun and free activities for the whole family, offered on the third Saturday of every month at Rush Ranch. All ages and mobility levels are welcome! This event is 100% volunteer-run and activities vary month-to-month. Activities may include a guided walk alongside the tidal marsh and through upland grasses (timing varies), a traditional blacksmith shop in action, an interpretive display of Native American tools and decorations, and horse-drawn wagon rides that are wheelchair accessible. For more details, click on the event link above. Bring water, snacks or picnic lunch, bug repellent. Be prepared for variable weather by bringing layered clothes, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Optional: binoculars, camera.

Wildflowers & Aquatic Critters Walk   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Jepson Prairie
Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of vernal pools and native grasslands. Enjoy an easy walk in a portion of the Preserve only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. The Preserve explodes into color during its spring wildflower display. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. WHAT TO BRING: Protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Note: It is often windy! Cash donation suggested but not required: $5/adult. Scenic Limited Wildflower Train   Saturday,  APR  18, 2015

BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION —  Western Railway Museum
All aboard for the Scenic Limited, running on Wednesdays, Saturday, and Sundays in April at 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm! The Scenic Limited is an hour-long ride for all ages that highlights the natural wildflowers that dot the hillsides. Passengers admire panoramic views populated with native wildflowers such as poppies, goldfields, and lupine. A limited number of first-class seats can be reserved in the Parlor-Observation car, which include cookies and lemonade. Special rates available for current Museum members. Coach tickets are $11 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 years and older, and $8 for children 2-14. All coach tickets are all first-come, first-served. All first-class tickets are $6 extra, and include cookies and lemonade served by uniformed staff. Advanced reservations for first-class accepted online or by calling 800-838-3006.
