Robert Orlando Kids Day of Fishing   Saturday,  APR  25, 2015

KIDS DAY OF FISHING & FAIRFIELD KIWANIS CLUB —  Fairfield Civic Center Pond
This event is for the first 250 kids age 3-15 and special-needs children of all ages. First come, first serve. Please note: an attending adult will be required to fill out and sign our "event medical release form" for attendees. NO EXCEPTIONs. Pre-registration is only available for special needs-children. We will have a special-needs area and sign-up line at the event. This event includes derby shirts, rod-and-reel combinations, tackle kits, and bait to fish the pond. We will award trophies for top fish and give prizes to all participants. There will be a 5-fish-total limit per angler. In addition, hot dogs, chips and sodas will be served by the Fairfield Police Officers Association. Raffle prizes will be called at the end of the event. We will have a donation area with rods and gear available after we have given out our free gear to the first 250 children. Sign-in starts at 7AM and the Derby begins at 8AM.

Earth Day Clean-up   Saturday,  APR  25, 2015

VALLEJO WATERSHED ALLIANCE & SOLANO RCD —  Blue Rock Springs Creek
You can help the Earth! Celebrate Earth Day by joining a cleanup along Blue Rock Springs Creek in Vallejo. Please join us for this family-friendly event. If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult. Wear sturdy shoes (waterproof boots if possible), clothes that can get dirty, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. Bring refillable water bottle. We’ll supply tools, bags, water, and refreshments. Please RSVP at (707) 301-5778 so we can plan for everyone!

DIRECTIONS: Park in the lot of the Wardlaw Dog Park on Ascot Parkway in Vallejo across from Jesse Bethel High School). Follow the path behind the dog park and cross the small bridge.

 
Guided Outing to Green Valley Falls   Saturday,  APR  25, 2015

BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL —  Green Valley Falls
One of the most picturesque places in Solano County, this waterfall vies for the title of most beautiful in the Bay Area. The falls flow all year long and it is cool and inviting even on a hot day. The hike is fairly short, but there are some steep and difficult spots. The hike should last about 3 hours. The City of Vallejo limits each hike to 30 people. We'll take reservations on a first-come first-served basis. You must bring a photo ID, be older than 12 years old, and be accompanied by a parent or guardian if you are under 18. Save your spot now by registering online now.

We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.

Wildflowers & Aquatic Critters Walk   Saturday,  APR  25, 2015

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Jepson Prairie
Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of vernal pools and native grasslands. Enjoy an easy walk in a portion of the Preserve only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. The Preserve explodes into color during its spring wildflower display. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. WHAT TO BRING: Protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Note: It is often windy! Cash donation suggested but not required: $5/adult. Scenic Limited Wildflower Train   Saturday,  APR  25, 2015

BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION —  Western Railway Museum
All aboard for the Scenic Limited, running on Wednesdays, Saturday, and Sundays in April at 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm! The Scenic Limited is an hour-long ride for all ages that highlights the natural wildflowers that dot the hillsides. Passengers admire panoramic views populated with native wildflowers such as poppies, goldfields, and lupine. A limited number of first-class seats can be reserved in the Parlor-Observation car, which include cookies and lemonade. Special rates available for current Museum members. Coach tickets are $11 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 years and older, and $8 for children 2-14. All coach tickets are all first-come, first-served. All first-class tickets are $6 extra, and include cookies and lemonade served by uniformed staff. Advanced reservations for first-class accepted online or by calling 800-838-3006.
