California Traditional Hunter Education   Saturday,  MAY  18, 2019

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE —  Hastings Island Hunting Preserve
This is a 2-day class on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19. In order to be certified the student must attend the entire class including all sessions. Class starts 8:00 AM Sharp, both days. All students are required to obtain a California Get Outdoors ID (GO ID) prior to registering for California Hunter Education courses. If you have previously held a CDFW license (i.e. Fishing), your GO ID is printed on the license above your name. Students will need to show safe handling of firearms and pass the Hunter Education test with a score of 80% or better. There is no minimum age to attend California Hunter Education. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend with young students, especially those younger than age 16, to help define new words or provide additional tutoring during and after class. For details and instructions for registering, click HERE. Course fee is $10. Student manuals are provided. Bring a pencil/pen/highlighters. Hamburger-fries-onion rings for lunch will be available for purchase from the grill each day.

Rockville Hills Regional Park Trail Crew   Saturday,  MAY  18, 2019

CITY OF FAIRFIELD —  Rockville Hills Regional Park
The Rockville Trail Crew volunteer work days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 9-12noon, rain or shine! Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Volunteers should bring water, gloves and a tool if available. Volunteers should wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes. A snack and beverage provided for volunteers. Meet at the parking area. SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Lynch Canyon Open Space Park
Enjoy a walk in the beautiful open space of Lynch Canyon led by Barbara Fredericks of Benicia Yoga & Wellness. She will lead you on a walk while stopping to incorporate easy yoga moves “for every body”. This is a free hike and no RSVP is required. Meet in the parking lot. Bring water, and $6 cash or check for the parking fee.

We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.

Horse Day at McIntyre Ranch   Saturday,  MAY  18, 2019

GVRD —  McIntyre Ranch
For ages 10-17 -- Learn about the friendly horses and goats, and participate in their daily care. Wear sturdy work clothes and tough shoes because this is a "hand-on" experience. You will put a halter on a horse, learn to lead horses safely, brush them, clean their feet and clean their stalls. Everyone will have a chance to sit on a horse (helmet are required and provided, keep hairstyle simple for easy fit). Eat a good breakfast, bring water bottle and wear layers. For more information contact the Coordinator at 707-639-1325. $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.

You are authorized to drive through this road for GVRD programs only.

 
Rush Ranch 'Get the Rush'   Saturday,  MAY  18, 2019

SOLANO LAND TRUST & RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Get the Rush is a series of fun and free activities for the whole family, offered on the third Saturday of every month at Rush Ranch. All ages and mobility levels are welcome! This event is 100% volunteer-run and activities vary month-to-month. Get the Rush! is made possible by Rush Ranch Educational Council, Access Adventure, Napa-Solano Audubon Society, and Solano Land Trust volunteers. The blacksmith shop is open rain or shine. Rain, soil conditions, or extreme heat may cancel other activities.

Awesome Ospreys Napa River Cruise   Saturday,  MAY  18, 2019

MARE ISLAND SHORELINE HERITAGE PRESERVE —  Vallejo Marina
Join us aboard River Dolphin for a “timeless river adventure” with Myrna Hayes, President, Mare Island Heritage Trust and volunteer Mare Island Preserve Manager together with River Dolphin Owner and Captain, on the Napa River Mare Island Strait. Our passion on this 2.5 hour cruise will be osprey...in the sky, on their nests, fishing the river and lots of info about how they first arrived to nest in San Francisco Bay for the first time in recorded history at Mare Island in 2003. You’ll learn how today there are dozens of osprey nest sites in the Bay Area. This is our first osprey viewing boat trip of the season with next 3 coming up June 22 and 23 during San Francisco Bay Osprey Days. The trip leaves from the Vallejo Marina, but you must make a reservation in advance.
