MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve It's our 7th Annual SF Bay Osprey Days! Osprey begin to arrive and begin nest building around mid-February, and by late July the Osprey young begin fledging - so this is a great time to come to Mare Island and experience the Osprey Phenomenon! Come join us for Audubon Society and local field guide led outings to view Osprey on Mare Island, presentations about Osprey, challenges to their nesting sites, workshops on webcams and banding, drawing and more! We are of course open all day as usual (10am til 1 hour past sunset) for you to walk or hike at your own pace for your enjoyment! For more information, please visit our website. 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS Lynch Canyon Open Space Park This hike will take visitors westward along Middle Valley Trail leading to Prairie Ridge. Expect about a 5 mile hike at a moderate, but even pace over uneven ground. Muddy spots will have cattle prints. There are steep climbs over several hills with the longest at Prairie Ridge. It’s worth it to see the view of the northern San Francisco Bay and Vallejo. Hike leaves promptly at 9:15 from the parking lot; expect to be back by noon. Docent guides will be discussing plant communities, landforms, and birds at Lynch Canyon pointing out highlights as we go. Bring boots, appropriate clothing, water and a snack. RSVP requested online.
