8:00 AM CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE — Birds Landing Fire Station This is a 2-day class on Saturday, Aug 24, and Sunday, Aug 25. In order to be certified the student must attend the entire class including all sessions. Class starts 8:00 AM Sharp, both days. All students are required to obtain a California Get Outdoors ID (GO ID) prior to registering for California Hunter Education courses. If you have previously held a CDFW license (i.e. Fishing), your GO ID is printed on the license above your name. Students will need to show safe handling of firearms and pass the Hunter Education test with a score of 80% or better. There is no minimum age to attend California Hunter Education. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend with young students, especially those younger than age 16, to help define new words or provide additional tutoring during and after class. 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS — Lynch Canyon Open Space Park This hike will take visitors westward along Middle Valley Trail leading to Prairie Ridge. Expect about a 5 mile hike at a moderate, but even pace over uneven ground. Muddy spots will have cattle prints. There are steep climbs over several hills with the longest at Prairie Ridge. It’s worth it to see the view of the northern San Francisco Bay and Vallejo. Hike leaves promptly at 9:15 from the parking lot; expect to be back by noon. Docent guides will be discussing plant communities, landforms, and birds at Lynch Canyon pointing out highlights as we go. Bring boots, appropriate clothing, water and a snack. 9:30 AM BENICIA STATE PARKS ASSOCIATION — Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.
