California Traditional Hunter Education   Saturday,  SEP  7, 2019

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE —  Hastings Island Hunting Preserve
This is a 2-day class on Saturday, Sep 7, and Sunday, Sep 8. In order to be certified the student must attend the entire class including all sessions. Class starts 8:00 AM Sharp, both days. All students are required to obtain a California Get Outdoors ID (GO ID) prior to registering for California Hunter Education courses. If you have previously held a CDFW license (i.e. Fishing), your GO ID is printed on the license above your name. Students will need to show safe handling of firearms and pass the Hunter Education test with a score of 80% or better. There is no minimum age to attend California Hunter Education. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend with young students, especially those younger than age 16, to help define new words or provide additional tutoring during and after class. Hamburger-fries-onion rings for lunch will be available for purchase from the grill each day.

Please join The 100 Club of Solano & Yolo Counties at this fundraising event supporting local first responders. The event includes 50-target Fun Shoot (ammo not included), Lunch, Goodie bag, live music by Vinyl Ride, 50/50 Raffle, Live & Silent auctions, and Awards Ceremony. Early Bird entry fee is $75. BENICIA STATE PARKS ASSOCIATION —  Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden
We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.

Suisun Marsh Walk   Saturday,  SEP  7, 2019

SUISUN MARSH NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION —  Peytonia Ecological Reserve
As the seasons change in the Suisun Marsh, it cycles through many different conditions. And all year it is alive with the many resident birds and plants. Now is a good time to take a trek through Peytonia Ecological Reserve in Suisun and learn more about the flora and fauna of these unique wetlands. The Suisun Marsh Natural History Association has scheduled a 1-1/2 hour guided walk through the reserve on Saturday. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will highlight the current and past uses of plants growing there as well as the natural history of resident birds and animals. Binoculars and walking shoes are recommended. This walk is likely to fill early, so enroll today! For more information or to register, call the Wildlife Center at: (707) 429-4295. This event is free to members and $5.00 for non-members. All proceeds assist the Suisun Marsh Natural History Association in its Suisun Wildlife Center.

PEÑA ADOBE HISTORICAL SOCIETY & RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Peña Adobe Park
The Peña Adobe Historical Society will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, welcoming “Folklorico Juvenil - Danzantes Unidos de Vacaville” as our special guest. This talented group consists of middle school and high school Vacaville youth who enjoy sharing their culture with the community. Most of the group met in Elementary school where they were first introduced to the beautiful art of traditional Folklorico Dance. There is no charge for admission into the historical park. Also explore the Willis Jepson Memorial Garden, and the Indian Council Grounds. Enjoy horseshoe pits, a multi-purpose field, a small pond, and excellent hiking. Dogs are welcome on leashes. Docents will be on hand to lead tours of the Peña Adobe, the Museum and the grounds. For questions in advance, call (707) 447-0518. The park is located at 4966 Pena Adobe Road in Vacaville’s rural southwest section just off of Interstate 80 to the left of the Lagoon Valley Park entrance.
