Nature Walk: Winter Birds of Lake Solano Park
Saturday,
DEC
8, 2018
8:30 AM PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS Lake Solano County Park Meet at the Lake Solano Nature Center to begin your stroll along the trails of Lake Solano Park. Bob Rockwell, Marc Hoshovsky, and Stan Hunter will be your guides for this morning birdwatching outing. This is a good opportunity to learn to identify local birds, so you don't have to be a birder to join them! The lake itself hosts many water birds, including Buffleheads, Double-crested Cormorants, Common Mergansers, and Great Egrets (not to mention the frisky otters). Forested trails and picnic areas in the park attract other birds, such as the red-eyed and mohawked Phainopepla, Oak Titmice, and bold-looking Spotted Towhees. These activities are appropriate for all ages, and families and groups are welcome. A limited number of loaner binoculars will be available. Please prepare for the weather and variable conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing in layers. The tour will be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain. A camera and binoculars are recommended. Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery by picnicking or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance registration is recommended but not required. The day's activities are free, and parking is $6 per vehicle payable at the east entrance to the Park, on the day use side (cash or check, exact change only). For questions, call Karin Young at Putah Creek Council, 530-795-3006. Parking Fee: $6 Location: 8685 Pleasants Valley Rd DIRECTIONS: Lake Solano Park straddles Pleasants Valley Road, north of Vacaville and near the town of Winters. Pay the $6 parking fee and park on the east-side of Pleasants Valley Rd. and meet at the Nature Center on the west side of the road. |
