RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Don't miss a Rush Ranch stargazing event led by local astronomy enthusiast, Jon Pannier. The evening begins with a short presentation in the Rush Ranch Nature Center. Outdoor viewing begins when darkness falls. Telescopes will be on hand. Personal scopes & binoculars are welcome, but be familiar with their setup and use and arrive before dark. Mosquito repellant and warm clothing layers are a must. Children are welcome, but must remain supervised at all times. In order to preserve night vision, flashlights should be covered with red cellophane, and all latecomers should dim their headlights. For questions, contact Mary at 707-422-4491. Lake Solano Canoe Tour   Saturday,  JUN  4, 2016

PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS —  Lake Solano
Make a splash and join a guided canoe program at Lake Solano Park. Discover the wonders of Putah Creek through exploration, relaxation, and education. The tour is an opportunity to learn about life along the river and the special riparian forest that grows along its banks. To ensure a friendly, personal experience, the guided trip is limited to just 14 guests. Children age 8 and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. The volunteers will give you basic safety and paddling instructions before you begin. Canoes, paddles, and lifejackets will be provided free of charge. Participants may want to bring water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and paddling gloves. You will probably get wet, so a change of clothes is recommended upon your return to land. For those who want to take pictures, a dry bag (double ziplock bags work well) or water tight container is suggested to keep your camera dry.

Reservations are required. Reserve your spot online. Guests should arrive by 8:15am to pay the fees of $6 per vehicle. For questions in advance, contact Karin by email or 530-795-3006.

Help us take care of Lynch Canyon's 1,000 plus acres. Projects include improving trails, fixing fences, weeding, and the like. Ages 12 and up are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. WHAT TO BRING: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, heavy work gloves, eye protection (e.g., sunglasses), boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rough, steep, and slippery terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from sun, wind, fog. Annual Kids Day of Fishing at Lake Solano Park   Saturday,  JUN  18, 2016

KIDS DAY OF FISHING & FAIRFIELD KIWANIS CLUB —  Lake Solano County Park
This event is for 100 Children. Special needs kids of all ages and under-privileged children between the ages of 3-13. This event includes derby shirts, rod and reel combinations, tackle kits, and bait to fish in our special needs accessible kids fishing pond. The Pond is stocked with Catfish and Bass. Trophies for top fish and prizes for all participants. 5-fish total limit per angler - catfish or bass. In addition, we will have a barbeque lunch with juice, sodas, water and a lot of fun with a bunch of special kids, families and friends. Everything above is donated to the participants at no cost.

Feathers Workshop & Beginning Bird Walk   Saturday,  JUN  18, 2016

NAPA - SOLANO AUBUBON SOCIETY —  Rush Ranch
Birds are the only living things that have feathers. Humans have a long history of fascination with feathers, using them as decorations, in our bedding, and as inspiration for developing the air plane. During this workshop we will explore a little of this history, as well as discuss all of the functions a feather has for birds. The workshop begins at 9am., followed by a bird walk at Rush Ranch Open Space and Grizzly Island Wildlife Area at 9:30 a.m. until noon. Walks are appropriate for all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). This walk requires some hiking up hills. Please bring binoculars if you have them and water.

The Rockville Trail Crew volunteer work days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 9-12noon, rain or shine! Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Volunteers should bring water, gloves and a tool if available. Volunteers should wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes. A snack and beverage provided for volunteers. Meet at the parking area. SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Rockville Trails Preserve
Explore the hills between Suisun Valley and Green Valley. Admire majestic oak trees, learn about lichens, and see sweeping views of Solano County and beyond. Take advantage of this special opportunity if you can because Rockville Trails Preserve is otherwise closed. Wear hiking boots or trail running shoes with good grip (to prevent falls on the slippery, steep, rugged terrain), long socks pulled over long, sturdy pants (to protect your legs from thorny plants and any poison oak, and to make any ticks more visible so that you can brush them off you), layered clothes and protection from the elements (sun, wind, fog, rain), and bring a backpack with plenty of water and snacks. You may also want to bring hiking sticks, gaiters, bug repellent, binoculars, and a camera. Since there is no parking lot at Rockville Trails Preserve, please meet your guide promptly and be ready to leave immediately from the big red barn with "Ice House" printed on its side, located on Suisun Vly Ct, near the southeast corner of the Rockville Rd. and Suisun Valley Rd. intersection, behind La Barista Espresso, Fairfield, CA.
