The Vallejo Parade Association, a local non-profit organization, presents the 163rd Vallejo Fourth of July Parade beginning at 10:00am. The parade starts at Tennessee St. and Broadway and takes the traditional route west to Sonoma Blvd. and then south on Sonoma and west again to end on Georgia and Santa Clara Streets. This year’s Parade features the usual array of entries included the giant puppets, horses, cars, costume characters, musical performers, City Officials and much more. The Grand Marshalls for 2016 are the Boy Scouts of America.

RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Don't miss a Rush Ranch stargazing event led by local astronomy enthusiast, Jon Pannier. The evening begins with a short presentation in the Rush Ranch Nature Center. Outdoor viewing begins when darkness falls. Telescopes will be on hand. Personal scopes & binoculars are welcome, but be familiar with their setup and use and arrive before dark. Mosquito repellant and warm clothing layers are a must. Children are welcome, but must remain supervised at all times. Help us take care of Lynch Canyon's 1,000 plus acres. Projects include improving trails, fixing fences, weeding, and the like. Ages 12 and up are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. WHAT TO BRING: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, heavy work gloves, eye protection (e.g., sunglasses), boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rough, steep, and slippery terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from sun, wind, fog. Meet promptly in the parking lot. RSVP by email or call at 315-262-4090 so he can bring enough tools. Ages 12 and up who are comfortable with this type of physical work are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Historic Mare Island Navy Cemetery Tour   Saturday,  JUL  9, 2016

MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST —  Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve
The cemetery on Mare Island is the Navy's oldest cemetery in the West, with graves there dating back to the 1850's. July 9th is also the 99th anniversary of an explosion that killed the Mackenzie family, who are all buried here. Park at the Visitor's Center and meet at the cemetery, just a few hundred feet up the trail. We will be offering two tours, one starting at 12pm, and the other at 1pm. Realistically, 40 people is the maximum number at this time for each tour. If there are more than 40 people that arrive BY NOON for the first tour, we will ask folks who arrive after that to join us for the 2nd tour at 1pm. We hope you understand, and we will try to accommodate everyone. And if more people show up, we will add another tour, starting at 2pm. We hope this will be a monthly event on second Saturdays. The event is free, but your donations to the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve are always encouraged, and help keep the park going!

CWA's camps introduce juniors (ages 10-17) to the sport and traditions of waterfowling. Juniors learn from experts in the field with a safe, positive and supportive environment. BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION —  Western Railway Museum
Railroad motorcars or 'Speeders' were used by the railroads to inspect the many miles of track for defects and to handle track maintenance. Now they are privately owned and owners operate through clubs. The Motorcar Operators West group will have their speeders on hand to provide rides for the public. Rides will be available on a first come, first served basis at an additional cost. Summer hours are 10:30am to 5:00 pm. Admission prices are $10 for adults, $9 for Seniors over 65, and & for youth 2-14.

Join in a walk/run to honor the veterans buried at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Dixon, CA. The SVNC Support Committee provides support and assistance to the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. This fun walk/run will help the SVNC Support Committee raise funds for the continued beautification and enhancement of the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. The Support Committee also organizes and hosts the annual Memorial Day and Wreaths Across America event held at the cemetery. During the honor run, you will also have an opportunity to purchase a wreath at an additional cost for the Wreaths Across America event that will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. The Lead The Way 5k is a national fundraising tour supporting the American Warrior Initiative (AWI). Led by the very first recipient of the AWI campaigns, Ben Lunak (USMC), the 5k events will raise funds for Veterans, Active Duty Military and their families. The mission of the American Warrior Initiative is to educate, encourage and inspire Americans to give back to our active duty and veteran clients. A key part of this initiative is the Lead The Way 5k "Race For Warriors" Tour. The Rockville Trail Crew volunteer work days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 9-12noon, rain or shine! Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Volunteers should bring water, gloves and a tool if available. Volunteers should wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes. A snack and beverage provided for volunteers. Meet at the parking area. Horse Day at McIntyre Ranch   Saturday,  JUL  16, 2016

For ages 8-17 -- Learn about the friendly horses and goats, and participate in their daily care. Wear sturdy work clothes and tough shoes because this is a "hand-on" experience. You will put a halter on a horse, learn to lead horses safely, brush them, clean their feet and clean their stalls. Everyone will have a chance to sit on a horse (helmet are required and provided, keep hairstyle simple for easy fit). Eat a good breakfast, bring water bottle and wear layers. CALIFORNIA WATERFOWL ASSOCIATION —  Grizzly Ranch
Our 5-Day Camp: Level 2 provides an exciting, fun, and educational summer camp experience. Campers will have the opportunity to learn and improve their shotgun, rifle, and archery shooting skills from certified instructors. Campers will utilize our 3D archery range, .22 caliber rifle range, and our challenging sporting clays course to hone their shooting skills! Campers will learn duck calling, decoy placement, and other hunting skills. To complement their hunting skills, campers will also learn about and participate in conservation efforts including duck banding, wetlands management and restoration, and other conservation education. Lake Solano Canoe Tour   Saturday,  JUL  23, 2016

PUTAH CREEK COUNCIL & SOLANO COUNTY PARKS —  Lake Solano
Make a splash and join a guided canoe program at Lake Solano Park. Discover the wonders of Putah Creek through exploration, relaxation, and education. The tour is an opportunity to learn about life along the river and the special riparian forest that grows along its banks. To ensure a friendly, personal experience, the guided trip is limited to just 14 guests. Children age 8 and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. The volunteers will give you basic safety and paddling instructions before you begin. Canoes, paddles, and lifejackets will be provided free of charge. Participants may want to bring water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and paddling gloves. You will probably get wet, so a change of clothes is recommended upon your return to land. For those who want to take pictures, a dry bag (double ziplock bags work well) or water tight container is suggested to keep your camera dry.

Reservations are required. Reserve your spot online. Guests should arrive by 8:15am to pay the fees of $6 per vehicle. For questions in advance, contact Karin by email or 530-795-3006.
