64th Rio Vista Bass Derby & Festival   Saturday,  OCT  8, 2011

BASS FESTIVAL & DERBY —  Rio Vista
The oldest Bass Derby on the West Coast will once again be highlighted at the Rio Vista Bass Festival, Oct 7-9. This year, anglers are able to choose between two fishing contests on the same ticket. Target lengths will be drawn at the start of the Derby early Friday morning for both Striped Bass and Sturgeon. This is a family event and we welcome young anglers, up to but not including 16 years of age. Kids will be fishing for catfish and striped bass. Many other activities planned for the weekend! Cost varies by activity. Registration required for Derby.
Food will be available.

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Lynch Canyon
Our land is our future, so jump in with your boots on! Help Solano Land Trust Land Steward, Ken Poerner, maintain Lynch Canyon's over 1,000 acres of grassland, oak woodland and riparian habitat. BRING: Backpack, water, snacks or bag lunch, insect repellent, work gloves. Be prepared for variable weather (bring layered clothes including pants, boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes, and protection from sun, wind fog, and rain. Upon arrival, arrange a one-time free parking pass with County Parks or Land Trust staff.

CNPS - WILLIS LINN JEPSON CHAPTER —  Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden
We meet every Saturday from 9:30-11:30am in the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located at the Benicia State Park Recreation Area for planting, weeding, and tending. Parking is free on Saturday Volunteer Days. Tell the Gate Attendant that you are going into the Park to work at the Garden.

Skulls and Bones of the Rowser Garden   Saturday,  OCT  8, 2011

MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST —  Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve
Meet at the Visitors Center for a guided walk to the historic gardens of Bill & Alma Rowser. Not your mother's garden, this abandoned garden has gone feral over the last 40 years. Now, volunteers are removing invasive plants and discovering the amazing bones of an unique and beautiful garden full of surprises. For more information call 707-249-9633.
