5th Annual REI - Ridge Trail Service Day   Saturday,  NOV  3, 2012
8:30 AM

CITY OF BENICIA AND REI - BRENTWOOD —  Rollye Wiskerson Trail
Join the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, REI, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and our park agency partners for the 5th Annual REI - Ridge Trail Service Day to volunteer on the Ridge Trail near you! In 2012, we'll have a record-setting 15 projects! The Service Day is our largest annual event, and a clear display of the Ridge Trail's regional nature. Each Bay Area REI joins with local land managers to host volunteer work parties on a nearby section of the Trail. Over the past four years, a total of 1,700 volunteers donated more than 7,300 hours while working on 48 projects, building & improving miles of trail and restoring adjacent open space and habitat. Chipotle is again generously donating their tasty burritos for lunch (where restaurants are available). In Solano County, please join us to improve the Ridge Trail on the Rollye Wiskerson Trail. Advance Registration required: Registration opens Mon Sept 10. Sign up early, as sites fill up fast!

Hike at King-Swett Ranches   Saturday,  NOV  3, 2012
9:00 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  King-Swett Ranches
Join Solano Land Trust docent Jim Walsh for a rigorous hike through the King-Swett Ranches. These ranches are only accessible in the company of trained Solano Land Trust docents, so take advantage of this opportunity to get healthy exercise and see spectacular views. They are working ranches, so cattle may be present. Requires the ability to hike off-trail, through thistle, on uneven ground and hilly terrain. BRING: Backpack, water, snacks or bag lunch, insect repellent. Come prepared for variable weather by bringing layered clothes (including pants, boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes) and protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Participants of all ages are welcome, but they must be prepared for a strenuous pace hiking 4-6 miles off-trail, up and down rugged, steep, and slippery hills that are full of sticky seeds, thorny plants, and thistle. Meet promptly beside Jim's white "TruGreen" pickup truck at the Park-and-Ride lot on the Hiddenbrooke side of the American Canyon/Hiddenbrooke Parkway exit, off Interstate 80. Be ready to carpool or caravan from there. Heavy rain cancels—call Jim at 916-870-4824 if the weather is uncertain. RSVP requested, but not required: Natalie at 707-432-0150 x200 (office), 415-517-2624 (cell), volunteer@solanolandtrust.org.
