8:00 AM NAPA-SOLANO AUDUBON SOCIETY Bird Rescue Center, Cordelia We will take a tour of the International Bird Research Rescue Center in Cordelia and then we will visit the Fairfield/Suisun Waste Water Treatment Plant. Car-poolers will share driving expenses (recommended $.30/mi to be split by the number of riders). Mare Island Southshore

9:30 AM SIERRA CLUB REDWOOD CHAPTER Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve Hike along the Historic Southshore of Mare Island to Pier 35 for great views of San Pablo Bay and Carquinez Strait. Visit the Mare Island Naval Shipyard Cemetery dating from 1858, and see Great Blue Heron and Osprey nests. This is a level, 4-mile walk on paved and gravel roads in the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve. Leader: Brian Collett Location: Vallejo DIRECTIONS: Take U.S. 101, I-80 or Hwy. 29 to Highway 37 and take the Mare Island exit just west of Vallejo. Follow Walnut Ave. south to ‘G’ St. (1st stop sign) and turn left. Take the 2nd right at Nimitz and go to 15th St. stop sign and turn right. Go to Railroad Ave. and turn left. Follow Railroad through the South Gate to the Park kiosk and park along the road. |

Beginning Bird Walk for Families

11:00 AM NAPA-SOLANO AUDUBON SOCIETY A special bird-watching walk especially for beginners, children and families! This is one of the NSAS-sponsored events for the 2011 San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival. This will be a short one hour walk along the edges of ponds adjacent to the trail to look at ducks, wading birds, songbirds & raptors. Binoculars are available on loan with guidance from our education volunteers. Resource materials provided. Meet at the American Canyon Wetland parking area. THIS EVENT WILL BE REPEATED at 1PM.
