9:00 AM CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY - WILLIS LINN JEPSON CHAPTER AND CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS FOUNDATION Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon -- plant and tend the Botanic Garden. All ages and skills are welcome. We will have a range of activities to choose from. Come dressed to get dirty, bring a hat, sun screen and gloves. 12:00 noon – Lunch will be provided, and snacks from the Fruit Guys and Kind Healthy Snacks, Benicia State Parks Association, and the CNPS Jepson Chapter. Register online and select Benicia State Recreation Area. Registration is recommended so we can plan for sufficient activities and lunches. Or just show up ready to help. Meet at the Botanic Garden in the Benicia State Recreation Area off Interstate 780 between Benicia and Vallejo (Exit at Columbus Parkway). Free parking for volunteers (fees waived by California State Parks). Please carpool as parking is somewhat limited. This year we are proud to be a part of the California State Parks Foundation’s 16th Annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup program. We are also happy to partner with the Benicia State Parks Association, Benicia Tree Foundation, and Timberland from Vacaville who are helping with the day’s activities. Additionally Arts Benicia will be facilitating the launch of our Botanic Garden photo contest. Getting up close to nature helps us to understand the balance we have with the environment. Studies have found that children who spend time exploring nature are more focused and interested in school. 9:00 AM CAL MARITIME ACADEMY Cal Maritime Academy This is a two-day event on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14. US Coast Guard & NASBLA Approved. This 16-hour hands-on, on-the-water course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a small motorboat and improve their boathandling skills on actual boats. The US Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) have approved this course and an increasing number of states have recognized it as meeting their requirements for a state boating safety education certificate. These national and state approvals call for the course to include a total of six to eight hours of classroom sessions covering required education topics. For more information, call 707-654-1157. 10:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST Jepson Prairie Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California’s best remaining examples of vernal pools and native grasslands. Enjoy an easy walk in a portion of the Preserve only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. The Preserve explodes into color during its spring wildflower display. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. 11:00 AM SOLANO COUNTY PARKS / SOLANO LAND TRUST Lynch Canyon Bring the family, a picnic lunch and your kites to Lynch Canyon Open Space Park, where you will find all the ingredients for a perfect kite-fllying experience: wind, an open grassy field, and a lack of Kiteus Eatemupus (more commonly know as kite-eating trees). Great fun for all ages. In addition to kite flying, there will be an arts and crafts table. The festival is free; parking is only $5. 11:00 AM BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION Western Railway Museum Lake and Utah Railway observation parlor car #751, enjoying cookies and lemonade served by uniformed attendants. Coach passengers ride in Sacramento Northern interurban #1005. Like the wildflowers, #1005 is also a true California native. It spent its working life on the same rail line the Museum now owns and preserves. Volunteers have lovingly and accurately restored both #1005 and #751 to their historic glory. Trains depart at 11:00am, 12:30pm and 2:00pm. ,br> Coach tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 years and older, and $7 for children 2-14, available on a first-come, first served basis. Vintage Comet Wine Train

5:00 PM BAY AREA ELECTRIC RAILROAD ASSOCIATION Western Railway Museum Enjoy an hour-long train ride at sunset! The Vintage Comet uses the same historic train equipment as the Scenic Limited but departs Saturdays at 5:00pm to take advantage of the beautiful late-afternoon light. Adult passengers learn about and sample local wine provided by the Suisun Valley Wine Co-Op. Each Saturday features at least 4 different wines from different Co-Op members. Fun fact: the name Vintage Comet refers to wine, to history, and to honor an actual Sacramento Northern train name, The Comet, which ran from Oakland to Sacramento over the tracks the Museum now owns and operates. A portion of the ticket price from Vintage Comet benefits the Solano Midnight Sun Foundation, which provides temporary financial assistance to women with breast cancer who need help paying basic living expenses during their treatments.
