9:00 AM CITY OF BENICIA A celebration in recognition of the efforts of the Benicia community, civic leaders, Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, Coastal Conservancy, State of California, and Solano Transportation Authority. The bridge is being dedicated in memory of Austin Howard Gibbon, an avid local cyclist. Ceremony will be held on Rose Drive, adjacent to CVS. We encourage you to walk or bicycle to the event. As the oldest Bass Derby on the West Coast, the event draws over 1000 anglers who fish for Striped Bass in delta waterways. A free citywide festival offers fun rides, tasty foods, and great company. 9:30 AM SOLANO GROUP SIERRA CLUB Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve Hike along Mare Island Strait out to Pier 35 where Carquinez Strait, Napa River and San Pablo Bay meet. Pass under Osprey and Great Blue Heron nests and visit an Historic Mare Island Naval Shipyard Cemetery. This is an easy 3.5 mile walk along level gravel and paved roads. After the hike explore Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve with its wonderful views of Sonoma Mt., Mt. Tam and Mt. Diablo. Leader: Brian Collett Food will be available. We have picked a full weekend in October to celebrate agriculture and the wonderful Fall Bounty that Suisun Valley has to offer. You will enjoy U-Pick fields, Hay Rides, Pumpkin Patches, local jams and olive oils, barrel tasting, winery tours and so much more. Plan a day or weekend exploring Suisun Valley and all the wonderful local products, activities and fun. Each day will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with restaurants serving breakfast and lunch, farm stands and wineries showcasing local agriculture life and products. You will find local olive oil sampling, local artists and just maybe something you've never seen before.
