Nature Hike at King-Swett Ranches   Saturday,  OCT  2, 2021
9:00 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  King-Swett Ranches
Come explore the hills between Fairfield, Benicia, and Vallejo! You'll be led by expert Solano Land Trust guides who know this area—known as the King-Swett Ranches—inside out. They'll share insights about the birds and other wildlife in this area, and give you a great workout! Take advantage of this special opportunity if you can because the King-Swett Ranches are otherwise closed. Bring: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rugged, steep, and slippery off-trail terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from the elements (sun, wind, fog, rain). Recommended: binoculars, camera, bug repellent, hiking sticks, gaiters. Participants of all ages are welcome, but they must be prepared: a strenuous pace hiking up to 6 miles off-trail, up and down rugged, steep, and slippery hills that are full of sticky seeds, thorny plants, and thistle. The King-Swett Ranches are working ranches—cattle are free range so they roam as they please. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Registration is required. For more information or to register, visit us online.

PEÑA ADOBE HISTORICAL SOCIETY —  Peña Adobe Park
Peña Adobe Historical Society welcomes Buffalo Soldiers and the Solano County Sheriff’s Posse. Company G of the 10th Cavalry, better known to history as the Buffalo Soldiers, will be riding out of western history and into Peña Adobe Park on Oct. 2 for the first time. They will be joined by the mounted volunteers Solano County Sheriff’s Posse and their horses at the Peña Adobe Historical Society monthly open house. The Buffalo Soldiers are a living history group that was established in the Sacramento area almost 30 years ago. The group recreates the black cavalry units that served in the Old West from 1866 to 1891. The black cavalrymen were given their nickname by the American Indians because the black men’s dark hair was so similar to the buffalo’s winter coats and the color of the cavalrymen’s skin. Join us for displays, museum and adobe tours, and more. From 11A to 2P. For more information, you can contact the Peña Adobe Historical Society at 1-707-447-0518 or by email.
