8:30 AM CITY OF BENICIA AND REI - BRENTWOOD Vallejo-Benicia Buffer Trail Join the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, REI, Chipotle Mexican Grill and our park agency partners for the 4th annual REI - Ridge Trail Service Day to volunteer on the Ridge Trail near you! Each Bay Area REI store will again join with local land managers to host volunteer work parties on a nearby section of the Trail, with Chipotle again generously feeding our volunteers with their tasty burritos (where restaurants are available). We will work on tread repair including drainage and outsloping, pruning, and brushing extensive overgrowth to improve views of the Carquinez Strait and the whole North Bay. Help Solano Land Trust's Land Steward, Ken Poerner, maintain it through litter removal, trail maintenance, construction, and other improvement projects. Come prepared for variable weather by bringing layered clothes (including pants, boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes) and protection from sun, wind, fog, and rain. Meet in the Rush Ranch courtyard. Installing a Wildlife Pond

10:00 AM SOLANO RESOURCE CONSERVATION DISTRICT We'll meet a few miles east of Vacaville at a recently-installed wildlife pond planted with numerous species of native trees, shrubs, sedges and grasses and has been stocked with Sacramento Perch, a unique fish native to this area. Topics include different types of ponds, appropriate native vegetation, fish stocking options, and wildlife friendly habitat features. 11:00 AM SUISUN MARSH NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION Suisun Wildlife Center Each year at this time, we open our doors to our members, neighbors and friends. If you haven't seen our wonderful wildlife displays, come check them out! Even if you’ve been there before, you probably haven’t met Bandit, our newest addition to our resident non-releasable wildlife. Come by and say hello – he’ll love it! Resident Screech Owl Milo also has a new outside home, so come see him! Tours will be given and refreshments offered to all who come. Join us from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. We will also be introducing the animals from our education program. At 12:00 and 2:00, weather permitting, there will be demonstrations with Sool, our resident Golden Eagle. 10:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST Lynch Canyon Join raptor expert Larry Broderick for a brief presentation on birds of prey, followed by a 3-4 mile moderate hike. You're likely to see golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, red-shouldered hawks, coopers hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, northern herriers, white-tailed kites, kestrels, prairie falcons, barn owls, and tons of other birds! Lynch Canyon is only accessible with a Solano Land Trust guide in the fall and winter months, so take advantage of this special opportunity to visit it. Meet promptly at the Lynch Canyon entrance gate (the gate will be locked behind the tour group). COST: A donation is suggested but not required ($5 for Solano Land Trust members, $10 for non-members). BRING: Water, snacks, bug repellent. Solano Land Trust's staff scientist, Sue Wickham, leads you on this outdoor volunteer opportunity where together you restore, maintain, and monitor the health of Lynch Canyon and the King-Swett Ranches. You learn about the importance of native species, the impact of invasive non-native species, and how soil, plants, animals, light and moisture levels interact in an ecosystem. Meet your guide in the native plant garden beside the Nature Center. 10am to 1pm: Join in an interactive demonstration with a smithy, and you may even get the opportunity to make your own iron nail or other keepsake! 10am to 1pm: Visit Little Bear as he tells about his life experiences and the history and culture of Native Americans.
