Communing with Cattle   Friday,  NOV  12, 2021
9:00 AM

SOLANO LAND TRUST —  Rush Ranch
Venture into the world of animal behavioral science! We will be learning how to read and interpret cattle body language and recognizing how our actions can affect cattle behavior. As Citizen Scientists, Docents, and SLT staff and volunteers, we can lead the way towards minimizing stress for livestock and recreationists alike. Let’s learn to safely share the trails! Livestock and recreationists share the trails on over 130,000 acres of open space in the North Bay and San Francisco Bay Areas. All of Solano Land Trust’s properties are managed with grazing. Grazing animals serve a valuable purpose on the rangeland, but are often misunderstood. Cattle can be especially imposing to hikers due to their large size. This activity will be led by Jasmine Barsukov, SLT Project Manager. Registration is required. RSVP here or to Jasmine by email.

Located beyond Lake Solano Park, please put our address in your navigation before heading out, there is poor cellphone service in the area. Our facilities are at the end of Sackett Lane, just past the bright orange front gate. We're happy to invite you out to our new nursery site to work with other nature-minded people who are interested in plants and caring for our watershed. We're just beginning to start production at our facilities, so nursery tasks will vary from day-to-day. Typically, they include transplanting, weeding, watering, trimming, pot washing, and other tasks as necessary. Putah Creek Council grows a variety of native plants for use in our habitat enhancement project sites throughout the Putah Creek watershed. All plants in the nursery are propagated from seeds and cuttings taken from plants growing in the Putah-Cache basin, and all are propagated, transplanted, weeded, and otherwise cared for by community volunteers - just like you! Please dress appropriately for the weather in clothes that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. Don't forget your water bottle. If you are under 18, you MUST bring a completed liability form with a parent's signature. For more details, to register, or to get a liability form, visit us online.
