You'll learn about the importance of native species, the impact of introduced species, and how soil, plants, animals, light and moisture levelsinteract in an ecosystem. Bring gloves, pants, windbreaker, sunscreen, hat, water, snack, insect repellant. Requires the ability to hike in about 1 mile and around a site with uneven terrain. RSVP required. Locations vary. 3rd Annual King-Swett Raptor Tour

9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST King-Swett Ranches Join raptor specialist Larry Broderick and docent Jim Walsh for hiking and birding at the King-Swett Ranches. Larry gives a brief presentation revealing birds of prey seen in the skies above the King-Swett Ranches, followed by a 3-4 mile moderate hike. Recent sightings include golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, northern harriers, red shouldered hawks, coopers hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, white tailed kites, kestrels, prairie falcons, barn owls, and tons of other birds! RESTRICTIONS: Ages 8+. No dogs. BRING: Binoculars, hiking boots, layered clothes including pants & windbreaker, water, snack or bag lunch, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), insect repellent. SUGGESTED DONATION: Members $5/person. Non-members $12/person. Free for anyone unable to donate. Rising out of the northeast edge of the Suisun Marsh, Rush Ranch stretches across over 2,000 acres of marsh and rolling grassland. Help SLT Land Steward, Ken Poerner, maintain it! 10:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST Lynch Canyon Join raptor expert Larry Broderick to see eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and other birds of prey in the skies above Lynch Canyon. You’ll learn identification, behavior, and ecology of these majestic birds. Broderick has 25 years of experience studying raptors, and he loves to share his insights in an entertaining way. Lynch Canyon has beautiful vistas and it’s closed to the public until February 11, 2011, so take advantage of this special opportunity to visit! Meet at 10am sharp (gate locks behind us) at the Lynch Canyon entrance gate: Intersection of Lynch Road & McGary Road, Vallejo, CA. Bring water, snack or bag lunch, and binoculars. Be prepared for variable weather (bring layered clothes and protection from both sun and wind). All ages are welcome. You must be able to hike four miles at a moderate pace, up and down steep hills. 8:00 AM NAPA - SOLANO AUDUBON SOCIETY Solano County The Benicia Christmas Count will be held on Monday, December 20. "Pre-count" observations can be recorded for 3 consecutive days before the count day and "post-count" for 3 days after the count day. Robin Leong is our Christmas Count Compiler and we will be checking out various areas in the count circle, adding birds we may not see on count day. Everyone is welcome and this is a great chance to learn more about our Christmas Count and how you can help. Pack a lunch. Be prepared to bird till 2:00 PM.
