Our land is our future, so jump in with your boots on! Rush Ranch is over 2,000 acres of tidal marsh and upland grasses. Put your thinking cap on for Citizen Science Friday! Led by Solano Land Trust staff scientist, Sue Wickham, this outdoor volunteer opportunity includes restoration, maintenance, and monitoring. You’ll learn about the importance of native species, the impact of introduced species, and how soil, plants, animals, light and moisture levels interact in an ecosystem. Get the Rush is a series of fun and free activities designed for families—all ages and mobility levels are welcome! From 9:00am to 10:00am: Tour the scenic tidal marsh and upland grasses of Rush Ranch. 10am to 1pm: Take a trip back in time at the historic Rush Ranch Blacksmith Shop, and Little Bear's display of Native American tools and decorations. 11am to 1pm: Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides (all are welcome, but the wagons are especially designed for wheelchairs and others with limited mobility). Rush Ranch is owned by Solano Land Trust, and Get the Rush is made possible by the all-volunteer organizations, Rush Ranch Educational Council and Access Adventure.

Our Saturday Bird Walk on April 30 will be one of the activities offered at the 21st Annual Rush Ranch Open House. Come early (event starts at 10am), take the walk with Joanne, and then stay to enjoy the other activities including demonstrations about local Native Americans and life on the ranch, see live bats and learn about their importance as pollinators and insect eaters, take a walk along the marsh, and ride on a horse drawn wagon. Napa-Solano Audubon will also host an information table with children's activities & educational handouts for adults.

Star Gazing at Rush Ranch   Saturday,  APR  30, 2011

RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Join amateur astronomer, Jim Jerrell, for a night of stargazing at Rush Ranch. Jim, who has 30+ years experience, will give a brief lecture and answer questions on all things celestial, as well as offer insight into the popular field of amateur astronomy. The class will take place in the Nature Center, afterwards everyone will move outside and begin the stargazing. Several telescopes will be on hand, but please feel free to bring your own scopes and binoculars. Please be familiar with the setup of your own scope. Children welcome! Please bring warm clothing and mosquito repellent. NOTE: To protect night vision, all flashlights must have a red bulb or be covered with red cellophane. Latecomers please dim headlights or use only parking lights once inside the parking area.
