Saturday,
JUN
1, 2013
8:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST, SOLANO COUNTY PARKS, BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL Lynch Canyon It isn’t the distance, it’s the elevation gain that makes the 6th Annual Lynch Canyon Trail Run & Community Hike the toughest trail run in Solano County. Community hikers travel 2.5 miles at their own pace, on wide trails with about 400 feet of elevation gain. The Community Hike is free and offers a chance to enjoy beautiful scenery and fresh air. Simply show up at the registration table on race day between 6:30 and 7:45am. Race-day registration prices for the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon are $35, $45, and $55, respectively. Hike at King-Swett Ranches
Saturday,
JUN
1, 2013
9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST King-Swett Ranches Come explore the hills between Fairfield, Benicia, and Vallejo! You'll be led by Jim Walsh and/or James Chang, both expert Solano Land Trust guides who know this area—known as the King-Swett Ranches—inside out. They'll share insights about the birds and other wildlife that call this area home, and give you a great workout! Take advantage of this special opportunity if you can because the King-Swett Ranches are otherwise closed. Bring: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rugged, steep, and slippery off-trail terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from the elements (sun, wind, fog, rain). Recommended: binoculars, camera, bug repellent, hiking sticks, gaiters. Participants of all ages are welcome, but they must be prepared: a strenuous pace hiking 4-6 miles off-trail, up and down rugged, steep, and slippery hills that are full of sticky seeds, thorny plants, and thistle. The King-Swett Ranches are working ranches—cattle are free range so they roam as they please. Very heavy rain cancels—call Jim at 916-870-4824 if the weather is uncertain. Leader: Jim Walsh or James Chang Location: Vallejo DIRECTIONS: Meet Jim and/or James promptly at the Park-and-Ride lot where McGary Road, Hiddenbrooke Parkway, and American Canyon Road intersect (on the Hiddenbrooke side of the American Canyon/Hiddenbrooke Parkway exit, off Interstate 80). (Jim has a white "TruGreen" pickup truck). Be ready to carpool or caravan from there. |

Riding the Solano Greenbelt
Saturday,
JUN
29, 2013
9:00 AM GREENBELT ALLIANCE AND SOLANO CYCLING CLUB Vacaville-Dixon Greenbelt Join us for a weekend bike ride with the Solano Cycling Club as we explore the fields and orchards of the Bay Area’s incredibly rich soil. Starting from the urban edge, we’ll learn about the strong agricultural protection measures enacted by the people, cities, and Solano County, while also looking at current development pressures threatening to diminish the prime farmland between Vacaville and Dixon. Note: While there will be many opportunities to rest and learn along the ride, if you are uncomfortable riding your bicycle above a 10 mph pace over a 30 mile distance, this might not be the right ride for you. There will be opportunities to resupply food and water during the trip. If you are unable to carry enough food and drink for yourself, please contact Adam Garcia to determine extra carrying capacity. Leader: Adam Garcia & Robert Haran Location: Vacaville DIRECTIONS: Meeting place: Peet’s Coffee & Tea in Nut Tree Plaza, 1661 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville, 95688 |
