Join amateur astronomer, Jim Jerrell, for a night of stargazing at Rush Ranch. The evening starts with a short presentation in the Rush Ranch Nature Center. The outdoor viewing will begin at dark. Several telescopes will be on hand. Personal binoculars and scopes welcome--please be familiar with your own set-up. Late-comers please dim headlights. Bring: warm clothing, flashlights dimmed with red cellophane, insect repellant.

"Citizen Science Friday" is led by SLT staff scientist, Sue Wickham. This outdoor volunteer opportunity includes restoration, maintenance, and improvement projects. You'll learn about the importance of native species, the impact of introduced species, and how soil, plants, animals, light and moisture levelsinteract in an ecosystem. Bring gloves, pants, windbreaker, sunscreen, hat, water, snack, insect repellant.

Access Adventure Wagon Rides, Blacksmith Shop Demonstration, and Native American Culture Station   Saturday,  SEP  18, 2010

RUSH RANCH EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL —  Rush Ranch
Volunteer blacksmith Virgil Sellers will demonstrate traditional blacksmithing tools and equipment in the ranch's historic shop. Little Bear will be on hand with a Native American culture display and to talk about his experiences growing up on a reservation. Access Adventure with Michael Muir shows off the ranch in a horse drawn carriage equipped with a wheelchair lift for persons with limited mobility. Able-bodied riders are also welcome. Program cancels if weather makes it unsafe.

Celebrate with us the dedication of 8 interpretive panels, our first permanent educational outreach in the Botanic Garden, made possible by the hard work of volunteers and the partnership of the CA Department of Parks and Recreation, and funding from Solano County, California State Parks Foundation and the Delta Protection Commission. California Coastal Cleanup Day is the premier volunteer event for on the marine environment in the country. In 2009, more than 80,600 volunteers worked to gether to collect more than 1,3000,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. The cleanup has been hailed by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the largest garbage collection."
