8:00 AM CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE Hastings Island Hunting Preserve This is a 2-day class on Saturday, Sep 7, and Sunday, Sep 8. In order to be certified the student must attend the entire class including all sessions. Class starts 8:00 AM Sharp, both days. All students are required to obtain a California Get Outdoors ID (GO ID) prior to registering for California Hunter Education courses. If you have previously held a CDFW license (i.e. Fishing), your GO ID is printed on the license above your name. Students will need to show safe handling of firearms and pass the Hunter Education test with a score of 80% or better. There is no minimum age to attend California Hunter Education. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend with young students, especially those younger than age 16, to help define new words or provide additional tutoring during and after class. 9:30 AM SUISUN MARSH NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION Peytonia Ecological Reserve As the seasons change in the Suisun Marsh, it cycles through many different conditions. And all year it is alive with the many resident birds and plants. Now is a good time to take a trek through Peytonia Ecological Reserve in Suisun and learn more about the flora and fauna of these unique wetlands. The Suisun Marsh Natural History Association has scheduled a 1-1/2 hour guided walk through the reserve on Saturday. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will highlight the current and past uses of plants growing there as well as the natural history of resident birds and animals. This talented group consists of middle school and high school Vacaville youth who enjoy sharing their culture with the community. Most of the group met in Elementary school where they were first introduced to the beautiful art of traditional Folklorico Dance. There is no charge for admission into the historical park. 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST Lynch Canyon Open Space Park Help us take care of Lynch Canyon's 1,000 plus acres. Projects include improving trails, fixing fences, weeding, and the like. This is physical outdoor work. There is usually no shade. Be prepared to be outdoors for approximately three hours using hand tools like shovels and hoes; lifting, carrying and lowering supplies; bending over, squatting and kneeling on dirt, grasses and weeds; and sweating. Ages 12 and up who are comfortable with this type of physical work are welcome—under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. When you arrive, ask the leader for a free parking pass. No registration required. Just show up and be ready to work at 9am! WHAT TO BRING: a backpack with plenty of water and snacks, heavy work gloves, eye protection (e.g., sunglasses), boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes with tread for rough, steep, and slippery terrain, long, sturdy pants and layered clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, protection from sun, wind, fog. Historic Mare Island Navy Cemetery Tour

12:00 PM MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve The cemetery on Mare Island is the Navy's oldest cemetery in the West, with graves there dating back to the 1850's. Park at the Visitor's Center and meet at the cemetery, just a few hundred feet up the trail. We will be offering two tours, one starting at 12pm, and the other at 1pm. Realistically, 40 people is the maximum number at this time for each tour. If there are more than 40 people that arrive BY NOON for the first tour, we will ask folks who arrive after that to join us for the 2nd tour at 1pm. We hope you understand, and we will try to accommodate everyone. And if more people show up, we will add another tour, starting at 2pm. We hope this will be a monthly event on second Saturdays. 9:00 AM SOLANO LAND TRUST & FAIRFIELD-SUISUN SEWER DISTRICT Hill Slough California Coastal Cleanup Day is a volunteer opportunity throughout the state to help remove trash from our creeks, marshes, bays, and ocean. Hill Slough Bridge and Rush Ranch are part of a national system of reserves that protects more than 1.3 million acres of coastal land and water. The Hill Slough/Rush Ranch cleanup location is on Grizzly Island Road in Suisun City, at the first bridge, approximately 1.5 miles off of Highway 12. This is a site where kids should be 10 or older due to potential hazards associated with the tidal marsh. There are no bathroom facilities located here. Please register online. Trail Crew volunteers provide technical assistance with trail maintenance and construction activities on the trails. Trail Crew volunteer duties consist of clearing rocks, trees, brush and other debris from proposed trail routes; build/repair walk ways, bridges or other structures; grade/fill existing trail paths to ensure user safety; and attend all required meetings and training sessions. Wear sturdy work clothes and tough shoes because this is a "hand-on" experience. You will put a halter on a horse, learn to lead horses safely, brush them, clean their feet and clean their stalls. Everyone will have a chance to sit on a horse (helmet are required and provided, keep hairstyle simple for easy fit). Eat a good breakfast, bring water bottle and wear layers. Lynch Canyon is home to golden eagles and hawks. It is also a magnet for migrating and over-wintering birds of prey. It provides them with over 1,000 undeveloped acres where they can hunt and rest. Some feathered visitors come from as far away as the Arctic Circle. This hike will be between 4-6 miles. Meet in the parking lot. Space is limited. $10 per person.
